What a great scripture! That could be used for teaching lessons of various topics, and seemed like it would work for what I needed, so I searched it in Spanish, to find that instead of the word, cleanliness, it says pureza, or PURITY.
That might change the meaning just a little. Of course a clean person should be pure, but to say that we should do all things in PURITY before God to me means that our hearts are pure - or of one purpose and intent.
The dictionary defines purity as,
1. freedom from anything that debases, contaminates, pollutes,
2. freedom from any admixture or modifying addition.
3. ceremonial or ritual cleanness.
4. freedom from guilt or evil; innocence.
5. physical chastity; virginity.
Cleanliness is defined as:
1. free from dirt; unsoiled; unstained: She bathed and put on a clean dress.
2. free from foreign or extraneous matter: clean sand.
3. free from pollution; unadulterated; pure: clean air; clean water.
4. habitually free of dirt: Cats are considered clean animals.
5. characterized by a fresh, wholesome quality: the clean smell of pine.
So in all cleanliness can mean unsoiled, unstained, free from unclean qualities. Purity means freedom from anything that debases, cantanimates, freedom from guilt or evil, innocence, chastity.
Again, the Spanish adds another dimension to the meaning of the scripture!
