Blessings in the wilderness of life

1 Nephi 2:2         Because Lehi was righteous and poured out his heart to God, God blessed him by having him take his family out of their nice home into the wilderness.  Lehi’s family was in the wilderness for so long, they had marriages, bore children, and basically went on with their lives for a good number of years! They didn’t know when the wilderness part of these blessings would end or when the Promised Land part would start.

When we turn to the Lord with full purpose of heart, sometimes we are first led through a desert with problems and asked to do hard things. We are blessed while we do the hard things, but they are still hard. Sometimes this happens before we receive the fullness of the blessings He has for us.

We shouldn’t be surprised when we pray a righteous prayer and the find ourselves in the middle of a ‘wilderness’ with a lot of hardships for what may seem a never-ending length of time and with no ‘promised land’ in sight.

If we look, we will see the blessings we are receiving during the desert part of our lives and we need to continue in faith, without murmuring, because in the Lord’s due time we will receive a promised land of great blessings. While we go through our desert, we should do as Lehi in 1 Nephi 2:7 and give thanks to God at the first chance we get.
